			<math>x</math> co-ordinate of the point <math>C</math> is the perpendicular distance of the point <math>C</math> from <math>Y</math>-axis which is <math>4</math> units which is negative.

			<math>y</math> co-ordinate of the point <math>C</math> is the perpendicular distance of the point <math>C</math> from <math>X</math>-axis which is <math>2</math> units which is negative.

			<math>x</math> co-ordinate is also called the abcissa.

			<math>y</math> co-ordinate is also called the ordinate.

			In stating the coordinates of a point in the coordinate plane, the <math>x</math> - coordinate comes first, and then the <math>y</math> - coordinate. We place the coordinates in brackets. Hence the coordinates of <math>A</math> are <math>(2,4)</math>, coordinates of <math>C</math> are <math>(-4,-2)</math>,

			Since every point on the <math>X</math> - axis has no distance (zero distance) from the <math>X</math> - axis, therefore, the <math>y</math> - coordinate of every point lying on the <math>X</math> - axis is always zero. Thus, the coordinates of any point on the <math>X</math> - axis are of the form (<math>x</math>, <math>0</math>), where <math>x</math> is the distance of the point from the <math>Y</math> - axis. Similarly, the coordinates of any point on the <math>Y</math> - axis are of the form (<math>0</math>, <math>y</math>), where <math>y</math> is the distance of the point from the <math>X</math> - axis.

			What are the coordinates of the origin <math>O</math> ? It has zero distance from both the axes so that its abscissa and ordinate are both zero. Therefore, the coordinates of the origin are <math>(0,0)</math>.
